Litchfield Park was founded by Paul Weeks Litchfield, an executive of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, who came to the Phoenix area in 1916 to secure farmland for the long-staple cotton Goodyear needed for its tire cords. The Southwest Cotton Company Goodyear formed eventually held roughly 36,000 acres in the Salt River Valley, and the U.S. Postal Service recognized the Litchfield Park name in 1926. Litchfield Park was incorporated as its own city in 1987 and had 6,847 residents at the 2020 Census, up from 5,476 in 2010. It covers about 3.3 square miles at an elevation of roughly 1,053 feet, bordered by Goodyear to the west, Avondale to the southeast, and Glendale to the north.

That history matters for carts because Litchfield Park is older, more built-out, and more established than the newer master-planned communities around it. Streets, garages, and cart barns here were laid out decades before some of Goodyear’s newer neighborhoods existed.
